Imagining Your Spouse as a Psychopath, Star Wars, and Other Geeky Things

October 28, 2017

Happy Halloween! Or, more accurately, happy early Halloween.

October is my favorite month, and not just for the candy. The weather is amazing and, since most of the family trips I had as a child took place in this month, even the faintest hint of fall in the air has me wanting to hop in the car and drive away.

October even plays a part in my writing. Besides the fact that most—if not all—of my books take place in fall, other than ones I wrote for the Goodreads MM Group's old anthology, they've also been released in October.

This year has been a madhouse! While a term that has, quite sensibly, fallen out of fashion, it still feels quite fitting. The first five months were spent writing a story that will not be released until January, and the last five has been a scramble between different projects. Still, I wanted to release something for October because...it's my thing.

My first attempt wasn't great. While I still liked the premise of the story—a haunted trail, a mad crush, and a night straight out of a horror movie—it didn't feel like me. As much as I sometimes wish I wasn't the kind of writer I am, I'm that writer anyway. If you've read Cold Fingers or Body of Work, or even the Grant Cooper short stories, you know I'm a complete and utter dork. Crap from my childhood is always popping up. Needless to say, I watched way too many reruns and 80's cartoons as a kid. To this day, my favorite thing of everything I've written is the Cold Fingers teahouse scene with Christopher—our narrator—and Lee—the old-school horror actor—with the discussion about Star Wars and Peter Cushing.

It was then it dawned on me. The story didn't need to be about a night straight out of a horror movie, it needed to be about a night straight out of a BAD horror movie! And that gave me an idea. What if my husband was actually a psychopath? He's not, of course. Well, not completely, but he does have some scary strong opinions on a lot of stuff that I don't care about. I mean, strong-ass opinions!

With that, Pink Slip - a Halloween romance was born! Think funny, and dorky, and maybe a little scary. You know, like my husband. ❤️

Pink Slip is the first release in the Tattooed Corpse stories series I have been brainstorming with a few other authors. The series tagline says it all...Different time. Different place. Same body.  You can expect the second story, Worth His Salt by Ofelia Gränd to release in the next couple of weeks.

For now, if you like your horror fun and your love story maybe, kind of sweet, Pink Slip - a Halloween romance is available on Amazon and Smashwords, and will soon be available from most other online retailers.

Pink Slip - a Halloween romance

Blurb

Jackson Winter loves everything Halloween. He loves the weather, he loves horror movies and he loves his job at Hoffman Farm and Dairy’s yearly Trail of Terror. Now he thinks he just might be falling in love with the trail’s newest special effects artist, Tae Min Reese.

Tae is a disappointment all around. He’s not a doctor like his brother, he’s an art school dropout, and he has no interest in making his mother any grandbabies. Now it even looks like he’s going to lose his job at a second-rate haunted farm. And he’s not even sure why.

When Tae decides he needs to break the bad news to the good-looking zombie actor who makes up any excuse to see him, a chance encounter gives them both something else to worry about.

Now, two angry drunks, a stinky car, and a dead body could ruin Halloween for Jackson forever. Or could it mean a happy ending for them both?
